FIFA World Cup - the world's biggest football tournament among national teams. It was first held in 1930 in Uruguay and has since played every four years (exceptions - 1942 and 1946 years).

Most others became champion Brazil (five times). Four trophy resigned to Italy, three - Germany, twice - Argentina and Uruguay. Also, a competition won Britain, France and Spain.

World Cup in Russia will take place in the summer of 2018 and will last 31 days. The participants will be 32 national teams. A total of 64 matches will be held - 48 in the group stage and 16 on the stage of the playoffs. In the qualifying tournament teams will play more than two hundred countries. The Russian team rights owner is exempt from participation in qualifying.

Holding the World Cup in Russia will attract unprecedented attention to the tournament. Traditionally, connecting East and West, Russia will unite the whole world through the universal power of football.

In March 2009, the Russian Football Union (RFU) has submitted to the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) official application for participation in the nomination to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

Along with Russia participated in nomination has 8 applications from 10 countries (2018 - United Kingdom, Spain / Portugal, Belgium / Netherlands, on 2022 - the United States, Australia, Qatar, Japan, South Korea). In the history of FIFA, it was a record number of applications for the competition to host major football tournament of the world.

In May 2010, a delegation of the Russian bid committee led by First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov gave FIFA president Joseph Blatter bid book to host the World Cup.

 

Bid Book of Russia - is a three-volume document (1100 pages) in English, where in 20 chapters describe the concept of all aspects of the tournament in the host country.

 

The biggest volume - the second - completely dedicated to the stadium: Russia offers FIFA 16 stadiums that meet the standards of the organization.

The Bid Book are detailed plans of Russia and all the cities of the matches on the organization of the 2018 World Cup.

The application is accompanied by a set of documents: the agreement on the tournament, government guarantees, contracts with the city of the Games.

December 2, 2010 at 20:35 at the Yekaterinburg-time FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter officially opened the sealed envelope and pulled out a sheet with the word «Russia». This meant that nearly two years of work crowned with success, and seven and a half years, the largest country in the world for the first time in history will take the World Cup.

In the vote on the venue of the 2018 World Cup was attended by 22 members of the FIFA Executive Committee. To win, it was necessary to score at least 12 votes. In the first round, Russia received 9 votes, Spain / Portugal - 7, the Netherlands / Belgium - 4, England - 2. In the second round, which took place without the participation of the British proposal, the votes were distributed as follows: Netherlands / Belgium - 2, Spain / Portugal - 7, Russia - 13.
