FIFA Director of Competition Colin Smith and Head of the Organizing Committee, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko summed up the results of the commission’s work, having noted that preparation for the mundial goes according to schedule, and that FIFA has no claims.

The delegation of FIFA officials and the organizing committee of the 2018 FIFA World Cup visited stadium under construction in St Petersburg, the Kazan Arena, the reconstructed Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, the Luzhniki Stadium and also the Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow. The commission got acquainted with other seven arenas being built for the 2018 FIFA World Cup virtually – by means of available information. In total the visit of the commission lasted from September 1 to September 11.

The first mundial organized on the territory of Russia will take place from June 14 to July 15, 2018. Moscow, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Ekaterinburg will host the tournament matches. Today all the cities are anyway preparing for the games.

"We have visited five stadiums, to examine the others we used graphs and other available information, - Colin Smith reported. – We are very satisfied with the achieved progress. Now, we are waiting until the revealed defects will be eliminated and preparation proceeded. I would like to specify that the visit was operational in essence. I can tell that at this stage we simply examined the stadiums and concluded that everything is all right. The process goes really well, and all arenas are to be ready in time. During our tours we observe if everything is made according to the plans".

As usual for such briefings the majority of questions were addressed to Vitaly Mutko who not so long ago became also President of the Russian Football Union (RFU). At first he answered the question concerning the status of stadium in Kaliningrad where the general contractor still has not started an active phase of construction. "In Kaliningrad we conduct the necessary preparations; work on a pile field was begun. But it is only a test period as long as the final decisions were not made. The state contract has not been signed yet. The budget is being studied now because the timeframe is very tough", - V. Mutko told.

"Today – is the deadline fixed to the customers and developers. Today we are going to complete budget calculation and the stadium will have to pass budget examination. All agreements for preparatory work have been concluded. Within a month an expert analysis will be carried out and if everything is successful, we will make a contract at the end of October or in the beginning of November. There are no threats so far. The situation is under control. The state contract for Ekaterinburg was signed last week, so active construction can be started there", - Russian Sports Minister noted.
