The recruitment campaign of 2018 FIFA World Cup volunteers and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup immediately gained an impressive pace: for the first month since the start of applications registration 62 500 people applied to become a volunteer. Start of the campaign, which will be the largest in the history of the volunteer movement in the country, was on June 1 and was given by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of FIFA Gianni Infantino. Candidates can register on ru.fifa.com/volunteers until the end of 2016, the application also can be send to Volunteer Centers of 2018 FIFA World Cup in 11 cities organizers.

"I am looking forward to the World Cup in Russia. Madly love football and want to be a part of the grand festival of football - told FIFA.com candidate in volunteers, Ekaterina Morozova from Samara. - For me, volunteering is primarily an invaluable experience, unforgettable emotions and the ability to see the organization of such large-scale events. Another thing is to meet new people and friends from around the world!"

Most of all applications were received by volunteer centers in Moscow (15 303) and St. Petersburg (7 419). Also in the top five leading cities in the number of applications are Sochi (4 206), Rostov-on-Don (3 070) and Nizhny Novgorod (2 620). 59% of the candidates today are women. 79% of applications were received from candidates aged between 16 and 25 years of age and 18% of the candidates are from 26 to 40 years, 1% of the applications come from candidates who are from 41 to 60 years, 2% - from 60 years and older.

"This interest in volunteer work once again underlines the importance of future tournaments and their special place in the hearts of Russian people, - says Chairman of the Organizing Committee "Russia 2018", Russian Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko. - It is encouraging that 16% of all the applications we received from 175 countries around the world, it shows that the FIFA World Cup has no nationality, it is loved and watched, wanted to be a part of it at any place of the globe."

The most popular destinations in which the candidates want to be involved are to service teams (those who want to help the organizers in this regard filed 9 610 applications), at the ceremonies (5 210 applications) and language services (4 002 applications).

In total, about 5 500 volunteers will be involved in 2017 FIFA Confederation Cup’ events, and more than 15 000 volunteers in the 2018 FIFA World Cup event.
