Visitors to the FIFA World Football Museum now have the opportunity to see the 2018 FIFA World Cup Winners’ Trophy instead. Germany’s 1990 world champion Pierre Littbarski switched the two trophies in the most popular display case at football history’s new home and handed the Original Trophy over to the officials responsible for the FIFA World Cup Trophy™ Tour.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour is a joint venture between FIFA and its long-standing partner Coca-Cola. From September onwards, the Original Trophy will travel through 24 Russian cities and visit more than 50 other countries around the globe, creating a uniquely festive atmosphere in the run-up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ and giving fans the opportunity to see the most coveted prize in world football. The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola kicks-off at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on 9 September.

The FIFA World Cup Winners’ Trophy now displayed at the FIFA World Football Museum will be given to the new world champions immediately after the official final ceremony at which the Original Trophy is presented. The victors may keep the Winners’ Trophy, which is the same size and shape as the Original Trophy. The tournament name and year are engraved on the back of
the Winners’ Trophy together with the names of the winners added after the tournament, while the names of all of the competition’s previous holders are etched on the bottom of the Original Trophy, which will be put back on display at the FIFA World Football Museum after the tournament ends.

The two trophies also differ in terms of the materials used. Although the Winners’ Trophy is also embellished with malachite, it is cast in gilded bronze rather than the gold used for the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
