Hockey player Pavel Datsyuk who is a Ekaterinburg Ambassador at the 2018 FIFA World Cup opened the Ice Palace in the capital of the Urals
A new ice palace opened in Ekaterinburg, which was named after the Ural capital ambassador at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, the forward player of St. Petersburg’ team SKA - Pavel Datsyuk.
The new venue is located in the sport complex "The Youth" in the center of Ekaterinburg. "The Datsyuk Arena" is designed for training sessions of the players and consists of two rectangular areas, inside which the ice fields are placed. The buildings are functionally divided into two areas: halls of ice fields and the auxiliary unit. The complex includes a large hockey field size of 59 by 28 meters and a small field size of 30 by 16.2 meters, which is designed for young children trainings. Both fields are designed without fixed bleachers for spectators. The building complex has a cloakroom, cloakroom for athletes with showers, clothes drying room, doctor's office, a room for special equipment on the ice conditioning, gym, general physical preparation room, inventory room.
The new Ice Palace is already included in the list of regional training centers of the state property of Russian Federation, which necessary for the preparation of national teams of the Russian athletes. For Sverdlovsk Region hockey is a basic sport, about 15 thousand people practice it, including more than five thousand children. Thanks to the construction of new venues, the successful performances of the Ural team "Avtomobolist" and the support of the sport from well-known Urals’ hockey players, including Datsyuk, hockey popularity is growing every year.

There are 600 open hockey boxes and nineteen indoor ice arenas in the region. 35 youth sports schools provide hockey training.
